Creating the Digipak

Although the first set of images that I took came out well, we as a group agreed that the pictures did not fit the concept well enough; as we wanted to create a young, vibrant and trendy brand identity for our artist.

Therefore, we ventured into London where I took some new images........

Editing

The images were retouched and the levels and brightness were adjusted.

Here you can see the contrast in colour

This image was chosen to be the front cover and was manipulated in several ways. Firstly, the image was given a comic book/pop art looking using special effects on photoshop; including the use of poster edges. This correlates with the visuals that were shown in the music video.

The album cover

As well as that the album needed a tracklist. So I took the following image, cropped it and added text in the font and colour that matched the front cover.

The back (tracklist)

Below are the rest of the images that were chosen to be a part of
the digipak.

Through photoshop the images were inserted into a digipak template. In this way we are able to see what the real image would look like.

Creating the Advert

For our advert we wanted the image to be fun and vibrant so it would stand out.

We decided on this picture as it was bright and left enough space to advertise the artist.

Here is the advertisement that Georgia did which came out very well.

However, after reviewing the final product we felt that there was too much space and that the image was too plain.

We then decided to change the image and add some sort of effect to liven up the image.

We decided that adding a cartoon/comic book/pop effect would give the image the extra visual appeal it needed and would also tie in with the music video very well.

This is the first attempt that Georgia and I put together. As you can see the text is bright and bubbly.

This is the final result

However, we felt that this was not quite the effect that we wanted as it washed her out and made her look plain; therefore we decided to try another approach.

We found another tutorial and came up with a more pop art look.

Once we had decided that we loved this look we went through a process of choosing what the artist's brand identity would look like. We then proceeded to play with different looks, fonts and shapes.

Lastly, we added reviews and music sites in which the consumer could purchase the artist's music.
Thanks to  Georgia's meticulousness this took us quite a while, but in the end it was worth it as it turned out very nicely. I think the advert works because it is eye catching and will lead the consumers to be curious about the artist; therefore looking them up which is the main goal of an advert.

Animatic

Along with the general storyline, the animatic  was used as a guideline for the order of the music video. However, the ending was changed as group members thought that it would be more visually appealing to have filler shots of London instead of the screen. Apart from this, the storyline generally stayed true to the animatic.

My personal Evaluation

Overall I am very pleased with our final music video. However, as I work in a group there are of course conflicting opinions on what each member believes looks good.

Some things that I didn't like about the music video include how the story slightly changed. I feel that the overall editing did not have an even enough balance between the
visual shots and the storyline;and so the storyline was slightly lost and became confusing. As well as that the order that some of the shots were placed in did not make sense in relation to the storyline; such as the audition room shot being in the second verse despite that scene being over.

Some of the visuals were used too frequently and did not really fit in. This includes the fire effect in the beginning and the repeated actions such as the hair flipping; which I feel were unnecessary and distracted from the storyline.

Below is my original guideline to the music video's storyline.

It would be shot like a vlog type video, documenting the artist as they moved around.
The storyline follows an ambitious young person who holds auditions for a band, however as they sing into the first verse it becomes apparent that no one will show up.
This will be shown through the acting and several filler shots such as acts of boredom such as lying the desk and tapping fingers.
Once it is clear that the audition has failed that artist moves onto the band room where they decide to become a one man band and so proceeds to try and learn to play several instruments. However, this doesn't go well. This will be shown through either split screens or boxes as we cut between shots of the artist outside trying to promote themselves to the public but being rejected. Despite the setbacks the artist doesn't give up and finds themselves getting better at playing instruments. We then see them slowly being accepted by the public and gaining popularity. The video would then end with the artist
showing that they made it as the video transitions to a photo-shoot showing that they made it. Alternately, instead of showing the artist gaining ultimate popularity we can show that the artist has started their career and it is slowly and successfully growing; which could be done through them busking them in public and having a crowd gather.

Constructing Digipak and Advert 1st Attempt

These are the first images I took. My images were aimed to be for my group's digipak, and magazine advert.

As you can see the majority of these images are close ups as this is how I envisioned our artist to be represented. It also allows the focus to be on the artist as the background I had to work with was not particularly interesting.

These album covers and adverts are very similar to what I envisioned for our artist.
Similar to this album, I also tried a more serious and contrasting look with black and white; because its simplicity captures your attention.

As a real record label would require for their artist, I have photo-shopped this image and airbrushed the artist's face to get rid of any blemishes to give the image a professional look.
